Sony Alpha Nex 5: World’s First Point and Shoot with Interchangable Lenses

DSLRs may take pretty photos, but let’s face it – they’re pretty heavy and inconvenient to bring around. I suppose if you’re a professional photographer, lugging around heavy equipment is part of the job, but DSLRs and their accompanying lenses can be quite cumbersome to bloggers and ordinary folk who like taking prettier-than-average pictures.

Today, Sony Philippines launched a new line of Alpha cameras so that anyone can easily capture DSLR-quality images without owning a DSLR! The Nex 5 is one of the cameras from this innovative new line. Featuring 14.2-megapixel ExmorTM APS-C HD CMOS image sensor, the Nex 5 can deliver DSLR-like images even in low-light environments, as well as shoot HD 1080i videos in AVCHD or MP4 format. It’s also extremely portable – it weighs approximately 229 grams, is 24.3mm thick, and measures 10.8mm × 58.8mm × 38.2mm (W x H x D). Small enough to fit into a purse!

The Nex 5 also has a host of intelligent features so you can achieve even better image quality. The Background Defocus Control allows you to intuitively adjust the depth of field by simply rotating the control wheel. Doing so makes your background blurry and lets your subject will stand out dramatically. You can also take great photos at awkward angles using its 3-inch Xtra fine LCD monitor, which can be tilted 80° up and 45° down to allow users to view their subjects at ease. The screen has a high 920,000 dot resolution with its 16:9 widescreen display, and integrates TruBlack technology which allows subject details and subtle tonal gradations to be displayed with deep blacks and high contrast, for accurate focus on your subject.
