I just attended the launch of OPPO’s camera phone with a 16-megapixel front camera…the OPPO F1 Plus. Can you imagine high resolution selfies!? I just had to see it for myself since the F1 Plus is touted as the “bigger better Selfie expert”. OPPO reallt knows how selfie-crazy the Filipinos can get.
The F1 Plus retails for only (hold your breath) 21,990 pesos. That’s really affordable . I will get back later on the awesome features. It is now available for pre-order nationwide from April 16 to April 29. Downpayment is just 1,000 pesos and you get a free OPPO selfie stick along with the unit as you pick it up starting April 13.
It is my lucky day because I was one out of five who won an OPPO F1 Plus. The above photo was my winning instagram photo. So let me share the excitement of unboxing my new phone. Unboxing is such a delight because one never knows if there is something new inside a box. It’s a gold OPPO.
I pushed a white box out of the first layer of carton. How exciting.
The F1 Plus is shrouded with plastic all around.
Oh , there is a SIM ejector tool in the box, so reminiscent of an iPhone 6 Plus.
The nice thing is that there is a protective case included in the box. That’s so convenient. Inside the box is the charger and the earphones, which is a standard in all boxes. It looks and feels like an iPhone.
So that’s how the whole caboodle looks like after all the unboxing.
First impressions
The smartphone is so elegant with a 5.5 AMOLED display with 4th generation Gorilla glass with ultra-thin 1.66 mm bezels. It looks gorgeous on my hand. So light , thin and comfortable.
The SIM tray is on the right, and fits either two Nano-SIMs or a single SIM and a microSD card (up to 128GB).
The frame went through 68 polishing processes before OPPO finally attained what they believed is the perfect grip for a smartphone.
It feels and looks like my iPhone 6 but with a closer look , you will see different positioning of the camera, flash, and more. Even the physical home button are shaped differently.
But there is more to the OPPO F1 Plus than a mere iPhone look-alike.
The F1 plus supports Oppo’s VOOC fast charging system. You need to use the VOOC cable that came with the box. The VOOC Flash Charge charged my smartphone quickly yet remained cool to the touch. With 30% battery life, it went to 71% in just 10 minutes. In 30 minutes, battery life is now at 95%, an increase of 65%. And 100 % charged in 54 minutes. That’s amazing.
Incredible Selfies
The first selfie I took is with my husband using the beauty option. The F1 Plus has a 16-megapixel front-facing Hi-light camera which captures clear, vivid colors. I still have to test it in various lighting condition but the F1 Hi-light camera should be able to capture low-light, back-lit and night-time photos. It is four times more sensitive than standard cameras.
I will write another post showing the selfie features of the F1 plus and check how the unique sensor technology and wife f/2.0 aperture lens really works. The smartphone comes with the new selfie panorama and Beautify 4.0 features and the front-facing screen flash.
OPPO upgraded its built-in selfie beautification app with Beautify 4.0 . After six months of testing and 150 revisions, Beautify 4.0 is optimized to enhance one’s look in just one click.
By highlighting the user’s best facial features and minimizing flaws, Beautify 4.0 creates natural looking photos. With the Selfie panorama feature, you can take extra-wide 120-degree shots, as the F1 plus seamlessly combines three photos to make sure that everyone in the groups is in the photo.
More than just a selfie expert
I will continue to test my brand new OPPO F1 Plus to see if it is more than just a selfie expert. The phone comes with a 4GB RAM and an 8-core processor. In my initial test of the camera, it took photos in a snap without any lag. It has other neat features:
- VOOC flash charge feature that requires only 30 minutes of charging to reach 75% capacity. The non-removable 2850 mAh battery can last up to 14 hours and 5 minutes of constant use. I will have to check that soon.
- It is the first to feature the all-new ColorOS 3.0
- The fingerprint scanner takes 0.2 seconds to unlock the F1 Plus
- The 64GB built-in storage plus a microSD card slot of up to 128GB.
- A 13-megapixel rear camera with an f/2.2 aperture
So far, I am impressed. The OPPO F1 plus feels premium and looks very elegant. I will check out the performance of the rear camera and the response of the apps. Loving this phone so much.
