How PLDT & Smart Stopped Over 5 Million Scam Texts in a Single Month

PLDT and their wireless buddy, Smart Communications, stopped a whopping 5 million sketchy text messages from reaching folks in February! Their Cyber Security Operations Group (CSOG) also put the brakes on more than 38,000 mobile numbers up to no good.

Angel Redoble, the top security honcho at PLDT and Smart, said they’re working around the clock to keep those nasty messages off their network. They’re teaming up with SMS aggregators and financial institutions to stop text scams from spreading like wildfire.

And get this – they’re not just stopping malicious texts, but also blocking a whole lot of dangerous online activity. In February alone, CSOG halted over 1.4 billion attempts to access harmful domains. Over 200,000 of those were targeting awful stuff like online child abuse and exploitation.

The PLDT Group’s Child Protection Platform is on the front lines, doing everything it can to block this sickening material online. They’ve even joined forces with the UK-based Internet Watch Foundation and the Canadian Centre for Child Protection’s Project Arachnid, giving them even more muscle to fight against child abuse online.

Oh, and they’re really beefing up their defenses too. PLDT managed to fend off 83 million cyber-attacks and break-in attempts on their network in February.

If you happen to get one of those fishy text messages, just snap a screenshot and email it to [email protected]. You can report other sketchy cyber stuff there too, like phishing, vishing, and malicious domains.

PLDT and Smart are all about making the internet a safer place. They’re pouring their hearts into shielding users from the cyber bad actors and ensuring everyone has a fantastic time surfing the web.And you know what? Their commitment to protecting kids online is helping the Philippines move closer to achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal No. 16, which is all about creating a world that’s just, peaceful, and inclusive for everyone – especially children.
