Yesterday, Amazon announced that they will be releasing a new WiFi-only Kindle very soon. It’s extremely tempting at just $139, especially when you consider the upgraded features – a new electronic-ink screen with 50% better contrast than other eBook readers, a sleek and slimmer design, and a lighter device overall at just 8.7 ounces. This new Kindle will also double the storage to 3,500 books and offers 20% faster page turns. And of course, there’s the built-in WiFi that allows you to shop and download new titles in just 60 seconds. The Kindle WiFi also comes with the new WebKit-based browser so you can visit your favorite haunts on the web.
Although the 3G WiFi Kindle is still available and priced at $189, I think the built-in WiFi connectivity will prove far more useful to most users. The Kindle WiFi is currently available for pre-order on Amazon and will be shipping to over 140 countries starting August 27, 2010.
