Before I owned an iPhone or a Samsung phone, my default handset was always a Nokia. I stopped using the Nokia in 2009 when I first got my first iphone. I loved the touch screen of the iPhone and the Samsung galaxy phones for the past 4 years. When the Nokia Lumia was introduced a year ago, I already liked it but not enough to buy one.

A month ago, I took the plunge and got myself the Nokia 920 because I loved the image stabilization feature of the video camera. As citizen advocates, that feature is useful when doing videos on the go. Windows Phone 8 is an excellent OS and the flashing tiles and customisable home screen options are just so much more unique than the Android or iOS.

It just had to be yellow because it is a pretty and catchy color. The box is yellow too:

The box came with a yellow earphone which makes it even more fashionable.

I also wanted the wireless charging plate which I bought separately. I can boost my Nokia Lumia’s battery without plugging it in. No need to align it carefully, as the charger can sense the Lumia on top. That is because the Nokia Lumia 920 has wireless charging built-in. The white light indicates it is charging my phone.

There are also several Nokia wireless chargers available to allow users to fully enjoy this unique feature.

There are just so many things to love about my new Nokia Lumia 920:

1. It is the first Windows Phone to carry Nokia’s PureView imaging technology, and a pioneer of wireless charging and PureMotion HD+, Nokia Lumia 920 is sure to give your father the best mobile experience.

2.With its PureView technology – Optical Image Stabilisation and Carl Zeiss lens, I get bright, blur-free photos and videos in any light condition.

I can also create perfect group photos with the Smart Shoot app. It allows me to choose the best pose and combine it with the best faces of each one in the picture.

This is a photo of my pet cat using zoom as it is difficult to take them up close.

3. Relive moments and view photos or videos with Nokia Lumia 920’s HD display. One of the best touchscreens ever seen on a smartphone, it makes all colors clear and vibrant, and has the highest sensitivity that responds to the fingertips even when it is covered up.

4. Nokia Lumia 920’s HERE City Lens is useful for those trips outside home. I simply hold up my phone and the HERE City Lens automatically overlays the best shops, restaurants and points of interest right on the smartphone’s display.

The Nokia Drive is quite slick but the measurement is in miles so it is a bit difficult to discern the distance.

5. The Nokia Lumia 920 is also packed with great apps .

For parents whose kids use them as drivers, tease your kids to pay you up every time you drop them off at school or at their hangout place with Dad’s Taxi. This useful app records distance and its equivalent cost. But instead of cash payment, why not agree on a household chore for every peso in the meter.

There are just so many apps. In fact one of my favorite is “glam me” for those selfie shots. All of these innovative features of Nokia Lumia 920 were recognized by numerous award-giving bodies, including the Engadget Readers’ Choice Smartphone of the Year 2012.

Who says there is no instagram? Instance app is the answer. Take a look.

Instance is not an official Instagram client and is not created, maintained, or approved by Instagram. I got the free version. Instance has all of the features of the paid version, only free!(With Ads)

The only drawback to the Nokia Lumia 920 is that it is quite heavy compared to the iPhone 5 but it is a fun and functional phone to own.

Since it is almost Father’s day, this is a great phone not only for techie moms like me but for dads as well.

The Nokia Lumia 920 is available in all Nokia Stores nationwide. It has an SRP of Php24,850. The SRP of the DT-900 wireless charging plate is 2559 pesos

For sure, it would be something related to independence or freedom.

True enough, I discovered Cignal Digital TV is supporting the Department of Tourism (DOT) and the National Parks Development Committee by donating Cignal boxes so they have access across the country. As explained by Guido Zaballero, Cignal VP Marketing
, they are “truly democratizing access to informatiom”.

Sipat Lawin presented a short play to celebrate “freedom”.

I can also see why “Freedom” was used by Cignal Digital TV on this 115th Independence Day. They are also celebrating a new kind of freedom with its growing subscriber base.

Cignal has gone a long way since it first launched in 2009, being the first to bring digital television to more Filipinos. I witnessed the 2009 launch and sadly, I didn’t have an LED TV back then . It was just too expensive to own one.

With more affordable television sets these days, more Filipinos are getting access to quality sources of entertainment and information through the nationwide reach of Cignal Digital TV service. It can even reach as far as Kalayaan Islands and Mindanao.

In just four years, Cignal Digital TV made significant inroads in the distribution and propagation of Direct-to-Home satellite television in the Philippines. They have achieved the 500,000 subscriber mark this month.

Watch Cignal TVC which is being launched today. So cute. Who wouldn’t get excited and rush home to watch one’s favorite show in crisp clear resolution?

With half a million households, digital is taking over the country. Cignal Digital TV says “Make the clear choice today”

Who wouldn’t want a fast camera that can be shared just as fast? Presenting the new Samsung NX300 that offers unique features for any photography enthusiast.

At the recent launch in Bonifacio High Street, Samsung introduced the Samsung NX 300 lifestyle ambassadors whose accomplishments resonate the camera’s dedication to speed.

Iron Man 7.3 Philippine record holder Noy Jopson, national record holder in Olympic Distance Nikko Welgas, 4-time Filipina Elite champion in Iron Man 7.3 Philippines Monica Torres all exhibit a penchant for speed, and their winning moments are best captured by no less than Samsung NX300.

Ben Chan a very popular photographer showed some of the photos he captured using the Samsung NX300 . The best thing about the NX300 is the fast shutter speed which caught the athlete’s quick motions without having to pose or slow down.

What are the unique features of the NX 300 ?

1. fastest shutter speed at 1/6000th of a second to capture fast moments in the clearest and most precise way possible.

2. The 20.3 megapixel sensor can shoot continuously at an ultra-fast rate of 8.6 frames per second that brings crystal clarity to fast-moving subjects and helps capture fleeting moments before the subject moves out of frame.

3. A Hybrid Autofocus (AF) system that determines the distance of the subject while fine-tuning the focus for maximum contrast.

4. The 3.3-inch AMOLED touch screen display can also be tilted for taking low or high angle shots.

5. Lightweight and portable is a plus factor since most DSLR are so much heavier. The light-weight, sleek, premium body gives a touch of elegance and style.

6. Using Wi-Fi connectivity, pictures can be directly uploaded from the camera to Facebook, YouTube and Picasa.

7. Photos can also be automatically shared or transferred to a tablet or a smartphone through Autoshare by downloading the Samsung Smart Camera app in Play Store.

8. Uses a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera, which is a plus to photography enthusiasts as one can use other lenses to suit their needs.

The Samsung NX 300 is the solution to those who may not want the complicated and heavy DSLR cameras and want to share their photos to their social media networks as fast as possible.

The SRP is 36,990 pesos.

To see is to believe it. I knew that Globe would be launching something big for postpaid users like me. I have been a loyal postpaid subscriber since April 1999 using the same mobile phone number. Through the years, I have seen plans evolve and I always adapt if it redounds to savings. What can possibly change my postpaid life with Globe? I was a bit skeptical but still wanted to know what Globe Senior Advisor for Consumer Business Peter Bithos had to say.

At the launch, Globe Head of Postpaid Raul Macatangay discussed the innovative features and benefits of the best-ever MySuperPlan .

What is the best-ever MySuperPlan?

Take note, subscribers get more than what they pay for with a plan value that is almost twice the value of prepaid load. Each plan has a corresponding ‘peso value’ (PV) which can be converted to avail of a combination of call, text or surf services, free or discounted gadgets, and a monthly consumable amount for more calls, texts, and surf.

What are the plans?

1. Plan 299 with a P500 monthly PV,
2. Plan 499 with P900 PV,
3. Plan 999 with P1700 PV,
4. Plan 1799 with P3200 PV,
5. Plan 2499 with P4400 PV, or
6. Plan 3799 with P6500 PV.

500 pesos savings with The best-ever MySuperPlan

After the presentation, a Globe sales rep approached my table to assist me in the computation of The best-ever MySuperPlan using my current plan.

My current plan amounts to 2097 pesos a month which consists of 499 pesos consumable, 999 pesos for unlimited internet and 599 pesos for super duo and landline.

Using the same needs, the savings with the “The best-ever MySuperPlan” is 500 pesos a month.

Here is the computation.

New plan of 999 which has a peso value of 1700
My combos are

1. 3 All net combos (at 100 pesos each) at 300 pesos
2. 999 for unlimited internet

Deducting 1299 from the 1700 peso value, the balance is 599 which goes to consumables.

The booster I chose is the super duo at 599.

Total cost of the plan (999) plus the booster (599) is 1598 pesos a month with a total savings of 500 pesos plus excess amount for consumables.

The savings with this newest innovation is something to be totally excited about. I looked at the piece of paper that the sales rep scribbled on. I wanted to change right there and then but I had to call Customer care to change my plan. Today, I made that call and within 24 hours, I will now be using “The best-ever MySuperPlan”.

To know more about the best-ever MySuperPlan, visit www.globe.com.ph/postpaid or any Globe Store nationwide, or call 730-1010.

If you ever need a new monitor, it has got to be the Samsung. When my two girls were still staying with me, I bought each of them a Samsung monitor. They have since moved to their own place and the monitor is still in their bedrooms. It is just so sturdy. I will probably sell it so I can settle for the latest LED monitor. With the latest range of monitors and printers from Samsung, there is a choice for everyone from designers, coders, gamers and myself included.

During the recent launch of its latest monitors and printers held at Art Galileia in Fort Bonifacio Global City, Samsung showcased how each of their new monitors can be applicable to one’s needs.

The sleek LED Monitor Series 5 has a wide 23.6inch screen which houses the unique Magic Upscale that enhances image quality even with low-resolution content. It also prevents image degradation or pixilation when enlarging videos or images. With a full HD display, it’s ideal for those web designers, or those in advertising agencies.

The LED Monitor Series 8 “provides optimum performance for photographers, creative directors and graphic designs who need to see their subjects in full detail. It has a WQHD display, which gives 4x better image output than HD monitors. The screen can be also tilted to just about any angle for added convenience. It also allows multi-screen display to give users a better look at what they are working on, with a wide viewing angle of 178degrees.”

This is also ideal for coders who need to see the text of their coding in one sweep. With a few keystrokes, the text can be viewed either vertically or horizontally. Neat huh?

Now, the LED Monitor Series 3 will be every gamer’s best friend.

It features 2MS response time, which means the monitor can quickly display moving objects and refresh graphics without distorting the images. This results to a better and more exciting gaming experience. It also has a Mobile High Definition Link (MHL) that allows users to connect mobile phones, tablets and other devices directly to the monitor. Lastly, Picture in Picture Plus maximizes this monitors 23.6inch screen – as you enjoy watching your favorite television shows (with built-in TV tuner), while working on your presentations.

You can plug in your mobile phone easily to view one’s game on the monitor.

Then there is the Samsung Xpress and the Samsung Pro Xpress printers which are now capable of printing up to 30 pages per minute with an estimated cost of only .58c per page. Now that is affordable.

There is now an overall improved quality and vibrant colors because of Samsung’s unique ReCP or Rendering Engine for Clean Page. What it does is to automatically sharpen the focus of both graphics and text, while solid objects are overlapped to eliminate white gaps.

The best part is this printer allows the convenience of wireless printing via mobile phone, and cut down on paper usage with its auto duplex feature for double-sided printing.

With this wide array of Samsung’s new LED monitors and printers, gamers, business start-up and professionals can surely find something right for their needs.

I got to participate in the Nokia Lumia 720 Test Drive for one week. It is not often I get to review gadgets as these are always reserved for the tech bloggers. What excited me is the Nokia Lumia is so pretty, affordable and so useful for my social media needs.

During the one week test drive, I let my friends tinker with my Nokia Lumia 720 review unit just so I can get their feedback. And all the time, I get a lot of “wow, this is so pretty” . Positioned as a mid-range smartphone priced at an SRP of P14,590 , the pretty new Nokia Lumia 720 is sleek, light, and a vibrant looking smartphone . This Nokia Lumia 720 is powered by a powerful 2,000 mAH battery. Weighing only 128 grams, this Windows Phone 8 device is definitely going to be a Nokia best-seller.

I love it and plan to buy one.

If you are social media savvy, then the Nokia Lumia 720 is made for you. It is so easy to share . The front facing camera has a wide angle lens and an HD-quality 1.3 megapixel. It also comes with a Carl Zeiss optics and Nokia’s largest f1.9 aperture, thus making it a breeze to snap stunningly clear images, by day or by night! I just have to get used taking photos as the button is in the bottom side of the phone.

Another Lumia experience is the HERE experience especially if you are looking for places.

The HERE experience is present on both the Nokia Lumia 720 and Nokia Lumia 520. Both models come pre-installed with a full HERE suite of applications including HERE Maps and HERE Drive. With Nokia HERE, no need to surf just to look for the best restaurant in the area or just simply looking for a desired location.

Nokia HERE brings a platform that integrates both Maps and Drive to offer users an outstanding experience on the road, or by foot. How useful right? Most of all, HERE maps and HERE drive can be used without Data or WiFI connection.

At the press launch on Friday, all of us got to try the HERE experience. What is even more amazing is that charging is equally fun for the Nokia Lumia 720. Just snap on a wireless charging shell and simply place them on the Nokia Wireless Charging Stand or Nokia Wireless Charging Plate and your device charges up.

I knew it. I was told to guess which online personality was chosen as the brand ambassador for Samsung Galaxy Note 8. She is no other than multi-media personality Bianca Gonzalez.

Check out my initial review of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. The Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 is the tablet I will recommend to anyone that needs to scribble their thought, sketch out a concept, organize ideas and express creativity wherever inspiration may strike.

Like Bianca, I find the Digital Diary feature very functional. The S-Planner allows one to manage a busy schedule on a daily and monthly basis, attach pictures or memos on specific dates to mark a special event, and even personalize entries to make it more fun and interactive.

Most of all you can use this tablet for voice calls.

The launch of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 hits Samsung stores on April 13. As a special treat, Samsung is giving out exciting deals for new and proud owners of the latest device. A special first-day selling event will take place on the said date at the SM Mall of Asia – Atrium.

1. Every buyer of a Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 is entitled to a free Samsung book cover worth P1,699.

Those who will line up from 10AM to 12NN will also get a free Samsung phone via raffle draw for every purchase of a Samsung Galaxy Note 8. Up for grabs are the Samsung Galaxy SIII, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy SIII Mini, Galaxy Grand, Galaxy S Duos, Galaxy Y Reloaded, and E1200.

The Sun Cellular Network will sell the Wifi version with their 1699 plan.

The first tablet I owned was an iPad in 2010. It wasn’t actually mine. I bought it as a gift for my husband so he’d buy more ebooks rather than paper versions. Our house is already too cluttered with paperbacks that having ebooks is the solution to an orderly lifestyle. Those were exciting times since it was such a novelty to own one. Since then there have been a deluge of tablets in various sizes. It was also in 2010 that Samsung introduced the world’s first 7″ portable size of tablet which gave better features than the ipad because of voice call capability.

It is three years after and Samsung brings another first with its latest Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0. It will move you. In fact “it moves you”. They say it is designed for the thinkers, the dreamers, the movers and shakers.

The Note 8.0 is the perfect canvas for one’s creative expression. At the preview last week, bloggers and other media got to play with the nifty Note 8.0. I thought of my husband once again. Aside from being an avid reader, he is an artist who does some sketching as a hobby. Though his iPad is still very much around, I think the ability to unleash his creativity with the Note 8.0 is the selling factor. Of course, there is the portability and performance to consider which is a plus factor in the Note 8.0

This portable Note 8.0 has an S pen that delivers the ultimate multimedia experience, amazing expression tools and allows one to simultaneously do in one view even during the call. It is the innovation of the S Pen that is a unique feature of the Note 8.0 . I have seen the changes since I have used the S Pen in Note 1.0 in 2011.

Let me just give you a quick tour of some of the many new features that I played around with during the press preview and as a review unit during the Holy Week.

Imagine the Samsung Note 8 as the on the go (TReND):Tablet, e-Reader , Note and Diary. I find having all four benefits extremely useful for my portable needs.

Tablet

As an active social media user, the portability of a gadget is always high on my list. The Note 8 is very light weighing just 345g (3G Version) with a diagonal screen size of 8 inches (210.8 X 135.9mm). Using wifi, the battery life with 4,600mAh power reached almost 12 hours with 20% battery power left. Imagine the combined features of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2.0 and the Galaxy Note 10.1.

It’s not as bulky as my iPad that I can easily fit it inside my purple handbag. I like its light weight but I feel I need to grip it firmly since the plastic feels slippery. I inserted my current postpaid SMART micro-sim at the bottom part of the tablet.

e-Reader

Reading Mode transforms the GALAXY Note 8.0 into an e-Book reader. You can even turn it into a universal remote control with Smart Remote, to manage TVs, set-up boxes, DVD & Blu-ray players.

The e-reader is at its best because the Note 8.0 automatically calibrates itself to the optimal conditions for prolonged reading from reducing eye-strain to intelligently perceiving when the user is reading so the screen never turns off. Users can also personalize their e-reading experience be making memo. There is a reading mode that you can select by scrolling down the top menu.

You can even highlight the text like one would with pen highlighters. I noticed some of the free books from the Samsung are from VeePress.

Note

Note 8.0 is capable of unlimited note-taking uses including Memo, Diary and Must-remember lists. There are S Note templates for Business, Education, Ideas and Lifestyle perfect for doodling or just bringing out creativity or ideas for a meeting.

My sister enjoyed the S Note by sketching with the various pen types.

Speaking of the S pen, it is now quite advanced that you don’t even have to touch the screen. With Air View, just put the S Pen slightly above the screen and hovering on it to see previews of videos, emails, photos and appointments on S Planner without opening the file or application in full.

Flipboard developed a customized version of its application exclusively for Samsung that allows users to take the S Pen’s hover feature and preview article headers beneath Flipboard’s main screen tiles.

Awesome Note : The Diary

I really like the “Awesome Note” diary because everything is in one place. The GALAXY Note 8.0 will replace your conventional diary or planners into one portable device. The To-do list, travel journal and idea apps that were strewn all over my iPad is now in one place. Practical S Note templates and S Planner feature help to manage everyday tasks, including meeting notes, to-do lists and even personal diary entries.

What is noticeable in the S Pen is the enhanced precision with the Handwriting-to-Text conversion and advanced Productivity Tools that support formula and shape recognition. This S Pen is quite a huge improvement over the S Pen in my Note 1.0. Cursive handwriting has never been accurate when converted to text.

Expression tools

The Paper Artist app makes me feel I am a real artist. With a snap of the camera, one can change the photo to create stunning drawings, paintings, and illustrations.

Take a look at how I “painted” my friend, Jane as she shows off the Samsung Note 8.

My kitty cat looks like I painted her image in a canvas.

Another neat feature is the Photo Note where you can also scribble using the S Pen on the back of the digital photo to label it just like in the good old days.

Main Camera

This is the shot I took using the 5 Megapixel Camera at the rear. The front camera is 1.3 megapixel.

There are still so many features I have to test such as the “Call and More in one view” where users can multitask while they are talking on the phone. You can access some applications while still on the phone.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 is the tablet I will recommend to anyone that needs to scribble their thought, sketch out a concept, organize ideas and express creativity wherever inspiration may strike.

It fits well in my hand reading at my coffee shop, giving a presentation, or enjoying youtube clips in bed. It looks like my hubby will soon be a proud owner of this Galaxy Note 8.0

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 will be available by April 13 at an SRP of 23,990 pesos for the 16GB with 3G/Wifi. The Sun Cellular Network will sell the Wifi version with their 1699 plan.

MANILA, Philippines - Samsung Electronics Philippines Corporation (SEPCO), a leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies, today announced that they will launch the world’s first 8 inch tablet this April. The GALAXY Note 8.0; a new era of intelligent Note technology set to re-ignite the mid-size tablet category that Samsung established in 2010. Providing unrivalled multimedia performance within a compact one-hand-grip screen, the GALAXY Note 8.0 has the power and advanced technology to evolve the tablet experience and ensure you achieve new levels of efficient multi-tasking while benefitting from superb voice call functionality. Using an intelligent S Pen, you can now enjoy the ease of a traditional pen and paper but with the latest in notebook technological innovation, creating a sophisticated mobile experience that will enhance life on the go.

“Back in 2010 the launch of the first Samsung GALAXY Tab with 7 inch screen opened a new chapter in the mobile industry. Now almost three years later, Samsung continues to reinvent the sector to meet the demands of modern life.” said Coco Domingo, Product Marketing Head for Samsung Mobile Phones.

“The GALAXY Note 8.0 breaths fresh life into the category as it delivers the perfect fusion of portability and everyday productivity – the result is a pioneering, pocket-sized solution that enhances and enriches our everyday lives, whether at work or play,” added Domingo.

At the core of the GALAXY Note 8.0’s innovative solutions are beneficial functions, including multi-window options to split the portable 8-inch screen and allow optimal access to a number of live applications; a new generation of Samsung’s intelligent S Pen with advanced usability; access to a suite of S Note templates and tools that allow you to create, edit, manage and share everyday documents; the Samsung “reading mode” technology to enjoy e-books with optimized resolution, video and voice calls*.
