PLDT Home Fam Cam & Smart Watch for a parent’s peace of mind

I admire working moms because it takes a lot of energy to manage to balance family life and oneself. I never had to leave my children at home since I chose to be a homemaker. Balancing multiple responsibilities is a challenge for all moms . Achieving peace of mind especially when moms have to be away from the young ones is priority. I love how   technology, smart gadgets and high-speed internet empower moms to be in control of the family’s safety and security.

Asia’s Songbird and PLDT HOME ambassador Regine Velasquez with son Nate Alcasid who is also now the new ambassador for the Smart Watch.

Take the case of Regine Velasquez, mom to four-year-old Nathaniel James, more fondly known as Nate, she learned to strike the balance between her hectic work schedule and her role as a family woman.  Regine reveals that “technology helps me become a better mom”. She gets a lot of help from PLDT HOME because they have a suite of products and services that are designed to give moms like her, the peace of mind through the power of technology.

Nate Alcasid sporting the Smart Watch from PLDT HOME

Two products which promote peace of mind among working moms are the Fam Cam and Smart Watch.

The Fam Cam is a home monitoring system which allows parents to check on their children remotely, and even communicate with them. The Smart Watch,  is a multi-functional gadget which kids can use to take photos, play music, and even record voice messages.

According to Regine, they use the Smart Watch to easily talk to Nate because he can directly answer calls using his watch when it is connected to their Telpad or a smart phone. The Alcasids also use it as a WiFi remote for the Telpad or smart phone cameras so it’s easier to take selfies or groufies wherever they are.

I tried it out myself. I like that  my phone is discreetly hidden when text messages and other notifications arrive. The anti lost feature is also useful since the watch vibrates once paired device is 10 meters away from the watch.

Regine shared how the watch helps teach Nate to become more responsible and aware of his surroundings. Nate’s Smart Watch can come to the rescue using the anti-lost feature. He simply has to click on a button and the connected device will make a sound so it can be located. The Smart Watch will also vibrate if Nate goes more than 10 meters away from the paired device so if the Telpad or smart phone is with Mommy Regine or Daddy Ogie, it will remind him to go back to them.

Now that is peace of mind for parents. Check out the fam cam specifications. There is  basic fam cam and an advanced fam cam available for HOME DSL Plan 1299 and up

The new Smart Watch is available for just P199/month. This is bundled with Telpad Plans 1699 and up with a lock-in period of 36 months.

PLDT HOME subscribers who upgrade to a Telpad plan automatically get a free 1Mbps HOME DSL speed boost, and for only an additional P199 per month, they can already top up with a Smart Watch. The watch is also available to existing Telpad subscribers. Simply order online and it will be delivered for free. For more information, visit

Whose side are you on? Team Batman or Team Superman? #SmartHeroes

The Man of Steel or the Dark Night?

batman versus superman smart heroes

I love both superheroes and I am sure it is difficult to choose. But I will go with my childhood memories.

batman vs superman

I choose Team Batman simply because it is the first superhero I watched as a kid. Batman is a 1960s American live action television series, based on the DC comic book character of the same name. It starred Adam West as Batman and Burt Ward as Robin — two crime-fighting heroes who defend Gotham City.

I enjoyed its “its upbeat theme music and relatively simplistic youth-aimed moral lessons, which included championing the importance of using seat belts, doing homework, eating vegetables, and drinking milk among children.” In fact, the live action television show was extraordinarily popular, called “the biggest TV phenomenon of the mid-1960s”.

The Batman I know is NOT the brooding “Dark Knight”. So there, it is the reason I chose Team Batman.

GCash beep MasterCard , my everyday-all-in-one card

If you are fond of eBay, then you probably encountered GCash as a mode of payment. The first time I “met” Gcash was when I started to buy in eBay late 2011. I discovered the fun in bargain shopping with the ebay finds. I often wondered why merchants chose GCash as an option of payment. Apparently not many own credit cards or even have a bank account. In the Philippines , three out of four adults do not have bank accounts. Even within the banked population, there are hugely underserved segments with only 3% credit card penetration. This is where GCash fills the need for this market .

With the introduction of GCash beep Mastercard, it now serves as the “everyday-all-in-one” card which functions as an ATM card for cash withdrawals, a prepaid card for purchases and a beep card for daily MRT/LRT commute.

This gives the convenience of cashless shopping and payment along other benefits. As a valued Mastercard member, all Gcash beep Mastercard users will now have access to over 40 million MasterCard merchant locations and ATMs worldwide. Though I have a Mastercard, I have stopped using my credit card for grocery and impulse shopping. I have been using my debit card for more than a year now. With my new Globe GCash beep Mastercard, I can now use this card for purchases online and offline.

Globe gcash beep

GCash beep Mastercard is the first value-added card to be beep ready. Beep is the authorized reloadable electronic payment under the ynified LRT/MRT ticket system which started full implementation on October this year. It is operated by AF Payments Incorporated which is primarily owned by Ayala Corporation and Metro Pacific Investments Corporation. Imagine the convenience. Commuters don’t need to line up ver time they ride the MRT or LRT, because with this new card, they can purchase their fare like a stored value card.

Cardholders can swipe their cards for all their purchases at the grocery, shopping and dining places locally or overseas. The card allows every Filipino to have access to online payments. With Mastercard acceptability, cardholders can now purchase apps for their smartphones, buy gems for their online games and shop at online retailers and deal sites.

You can avail of the GCash beep MasterCard at any of the 35 selected Globe stores nationwide and roving caravans for 150 pesos. It includes a free prepaid Globe SIM card and 30 pesos GCash load. The personalized GCash beep MasterCard can be ready in just a few minutes once a valid ID is presented.

Funds for the card may be loaded by cashing in at any of the 10,000 GCash outlets nationwide. Those outlets include Globe Stores, 7-11 convenience stores, SM Department Stores, Puregold Supermarkets and pawnshops such as Tambunting and Villarica, among others. In addition, GCash subscribers can also use mobile and online banking to fund their GCash beep MasterCard.

With the GCash beep Mastercard,  it will most likely encourage more entrepreneurs to start online businesses and bring more  socio-economic empowerment and innovation.

Gcash beep mastercard

GCash beep Mastercard may retain a maximum beep stored value of P10,000 valid for 5 years. The GCash wallet, meanwhile, may accommodate as much as P100,000.

UnoTelly, an online TV service that bypass geographic limitations

Have you ever tried to stream a video online only to see the message “This content is not available in your country”?  Sites like ABC where I want to watch “Grey Anatomy” or “Scandal” is blocked here in the Philippines.  I found a solution and I am sure you are eager to know how to bypass this geo-restriction. I got introduced to  UnoTelly a few months ago but  I was intimidated with the settings, that my mind just blanked out. Fortunately, UnoTelly gave me awesome support. Trust me, it is easy to set up. There is a step by step tutorial using their set-up wizard.

devices setup for unotelly

UnoTelly offers both a Domain Name Server (DNS) service called UnoDNS, and a Virtual Private Network (VPN) called UnoVPN.  UnoTelly  unlocks those “geo-blocks” so that you can view all those previously unavailable videos! Heaven-sent solution.

unotelly quick start

UnoTelly  is a DNS service that lets you access Online Streaming TV channels. It’s an Online TV Service that bypasses Geographic Limitation. Check out the  channels’ listing here . Their service allows users to access services that are already free or paid but barred only due to nationality. On accessing paid content like Netflix, users will still have to subscribe to Netflix’s paid plan. I subscribed for a free month but wait, I am getting ahead. Setup is pretty easy. You just need to select your operating system and add the DNS servers.

UnoDNS is a DNS based service, not a VPN. It allows me to access blocked channels like Netflix, Hulu,  BBC iPlayer and more, from anywhere I am with the press of a button. Here are the supported channels list.

The basic difference between UnoDNS and traditional VPN services is that by using their service, you will have a much faster connection for streaming video compared to VPN services. That’s because unlike VPNs and other solutions, there is no “middle-man” and as a result, I can stream directly from the streaming media station (ie. Netflix, BBC iPlayer) with full internet speed. With their service, users can stream content on almost any internet connected device (tablets, Video Game consoles, Smart TV’s and many more), compared to   VPNs where majority of them can be used only on PC and Mac.

unotelly dynano

UnoTelly also developed a unique feature called UnoDNS Dynamo that lets users switch between channels regions. For example, with a US Netflix account, I will be able to stream from any of the10 regions of Netflix available (with the same account) . Here is how to use dynamo DNS .  I checked Netflix and subscribed for a one month free trial. I got so excited I can finally see my favorite movies and TV shows.

UnoTelly supports over 300 unlocked channels

I clicked ABC Go and got to view my favorite shows like Scandal

and even Grey’s Anatomy.

I borrowed the login of my sister’s account at Amazon Prime Video to check the videos .

I am happy to see Orphan Black, another favorite TV series.

How to subscribe

Any user can try UnoDNS Gold for free for 8 Days. There is an  eight Day free trial .  After the free trial is over, you can subscribe to either their Premium or Gold package to continue using their service. Both Premium and Gold DNS package has access to all the DNS supported channels .

unotelly plans

The Premium plan (UnoDNS)  is $3.94 a month (regular is $4.95 a month) and the Gold (UnoDNS + UnoVPN)  is $4.93 a month (regular is $7.95 a month)

The Gold package includes a bonus UnoVPN service. The VPN  service is useful when you need to access any US / UK websites that is not supported by the DNS service yet. The bonus VPN will also let users download Android apps from the UK and US Google Play store.

Using UnoDNS  has no bandwidth limit and  streaming speed stays the same as the speed you have even without using our service.

Here are the channels that was recommended to me by UnoTelly:

Netflix (all regions via Dynamo)
Hulu Plus
BBC iPlayer
HBO Nordic
Amazon Instant
and many more channels .

Some of the channels mentioned above require a monthly subscription like Netflix but I got a free trial account before I decide to continue the service. Here are the instructions on how to subscribe to various channels.

Try the UnoTelly Service. I regret not setting up the UnoDNS earlier. It was easy after all.
